What We Do

Placement is a practice that provides full and partial architectural services, including selection and coordination of secondary consultants. From residential to commercial; civic to educational, each project is bound by a belief that good design should be beneficial to its community, respectful of the environment, and informed by the personalities and stories of those who experience it.

Embracing a collaborative approach, we delight in ‘getting the bones right’ in establishing guiding principles and championing them from the project inception, hand over and beyond.

On Country

Placement acknowledges and pays respect to the Traditional Custodians of the lands upon which our studio is located – the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung of the Kulin Nation, as well as Traditional Custodians of the lands throughout Australia on which we live, work and practice. We pay our respects to Elders and Ancestors of these lands and acknowledge that their sovereignty has never been ceded.

We recognise the ongoing connection, knowledges and rights of First Nations peoples, and hold our responsibility to advocate for justice, equity and healing at our core.

Sustainability

Sustainability is central to Placement’s practice and our work. We design places and buildings with an economy of means, in concert with their surroundings.

We view sustainable design holistically, embedding responsible material selection and energy efficiency within a broader ecological context. Our design approach is intrinsically linked to the landscape, focusing on creating meaningful connections between built environments and the natural world while enhancing human experience, health and safety. Our spaces are designed to conserve energy, reduce costs, and provide long-term value, both financially and environmentally.

We are aware of the need to do better, to not just consume less, but to eliminate consumption and embed regeneration, in order to design buildings with a net zero life-cycle carbon footprint as soon as possible.
